Latino American Minorities in the United States
SOC 247 FA

Crosslistings:
AMST 231

This course will examine the Latino experience in the United States from several perspectives. The historical presence will be explored through different theories of migration. The course will also explore the cultural conflicts between Latino and the prevailing North American culture and some of the consequences of this interaction on Latino identity. Another section of the class will examine the current social-economic status of Latinos in the United States. For example, it is projected that in a few years, Latinos will be the largest ethnic-social group in the country, yet by many social-economic indicators, Latinos are among the most disadvantaged groups in the country.
