Academic Year 2001/2002
Majors Colloquium in Religious Studies
RELI 398 SP
The Majors' Colloquium is designed to reflect critically upon issues, discourses, theories, and methods involved in the scholarly study of religion. The course has been organized around the four major areas of study
undertaken in the Department of
Religion, namely: Philosophical/Theological Studies, History of Religion, Anthropology of Religion, and Textual Studies. We will devote approximately three weeks each to approaches employed in each of these areas.
Each unit will typically 1) begin with
a classical statement in the field, 2) be followed by more recent scholarship, and 3) conclude with a feminist evaluation. In each case, our shared task will be to understand and to assess how religious studies scholars
conduct their research and make t
heir critical judgments.
