Contemporary Judaisms in Israel and the Diaspora

This seminar will examine transformations of traditional Judaism in Israel and North America. The differences between the Judaisms that emerge in a nationalized and de-nationalized condition will be analyzed. The
contesting among a variety of
Judaisms--ultra-orthodox, messianic-mystical, civil/secular, feminist, renewal--will be central to our study.
