The Psychology of Reading
PSYC 322 FA
This course provides a survey of current research and theory on reading acquisition and reading processes from the perspectives of developmental and experimental cognitive psychology. Among the topics to be covered are
the linguistic and nonlinguistic
bases of reading, word recognition, reading comprehension, and developmental and acquired dyslexia. Recent work on the biological bases of reading will also be discussed. To increase their understanding of the reading
process, students will spend time
tutoring individuals in learning to read.
MAJOR READINGS
Two textbooks and reserve readings.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Weekly short writing assignments integrating fieldwork with readings, one or two in-class presentations, midterm exam, final research paper.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed
