Understanding Psychopathology
PSYC 251 SP

This course provides a survey of the major contemporary schools of psychopathology (biological, psychoanalytic, interpersonal, social, behavioral-cognitive). It familiarizes students with the current classification system (DSM IV) for psychiatric disorders. It will include a survey of some major psychiatric disorders and their causes and consequences. It will introduce students to basic approaches to assessment and treatment of individuals with psychopathology.

MAJOR READINGS

There will be an assigned text and supplemental readings.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Three exams, and term paper.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

This is a core course in Personality and Psychopathology Psychology.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
