Mind and Hand
PHYS 102 SP

Mind and Hand is designed for students who do not intend to major in physics but who have a strong interest in learning what it is that physicists actually do. The lecture portion of the course will be devoted to discussing the intellectual strands that make up the tapestry of modern physics, and the laboratory will be used to practice the various skills needed to build an actual experiment. The course will culminate in the construction of a particle beam and the acquisition of data using particle detectors and a computer. No mathematical preparation beyond algebra and trigonometry is expected.
