Topics covered in this study of major doctrines and issues in political thought include the distinctive character of the political association; the relation of the private and the public good; the nature of political
justice; the character and scope of
political obligation.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Two short (4-6) papers and one longer (10-12 page) final essay.

Texts should be read in advance of the class meeting in which they are discussed. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they
will be dropped from the class
list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
