Philosophical Methods
PHIL 200 FA
This course is intended for junior and prospective sophomore philosophy majors. Its principal aims are to introduce students to basic philosophical concepts, distinctions, and forms of argumentation, and to develop
students' abilities to read
philosophical texts critically. The course will also provide an occasion for philosophy majors to become acquainted and to begin to develop a community of philosophical inquiry.
MAJOR READINGS

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Weekly exercises and oral presentations. One mid-term and one final paper.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Junior philosophy majors are expected to take this course, but others--including sophomores highly likely to major in philosophy--may be admitted, by permission of the instructor, if space permits. Students admitted to
the major may acquire permission
forms from the Philosophy Department Administrative Assistant; others must see the instructor.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed
Drop/Add form to the Registrar's
Office.
