This course will seek to introduce a unified perspective on the body of music produced by two of the great music masters of this century. The focus of the course will seek to establish both a historical perspective and structural survey of their work--using composers' scores, recordings and related material/documents. Lots of listening and listening assignments as well as score examination (when possible).

Music of Sun Ra & Karleinz Stockhausen ] This course will seek to introduce a unified perspective on the body of music produced by two of the great music masters of this century. The focus of the course will seek to establish both a historical perspective and structural survey of their work--using composers' scores, recordings and related material/documents. Lots of listening and listening assignments as well as score examination (when possible). There will be weekly listening assignments, fo ur papers, one research paper and two listening recognition tests. MAJOR READINGS: To be announced. EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS: Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
