This one-half semester course involves six to seven meetings of about three hours each. The general theme will be the biochemical aspects of cancer and cell growth regulation. The plan is to have the first part of each meeting consist of a lecture of no more than one and a half hours followed by general discussion of the previous week's lecture and any auxiliary readings. This will be followed by a short presentation of a special topic by a student or (preferably) a pair of students who will lead class discussion. Each student will provide a written summary of his/her part of the seminar (200 words or less) and a bibliography (including titles) of papers to be discussed. Each student is required to write a paper on a topic of his/her choice to be handed in no later than April 1. The paper should be about 10 pages in length and may be on the topic the student presented in class, or some other topic. All seminar and paper topics must be approved by the instructor.
