Intermediate Italian I
ITAL 111 FA
Required Sequence: ITAL111 & ITAL112
This course should be taken during a student's third semester of Italian. Review and elaboration of basic grammar combined with more intensive oral and written exercises. Class meets MWF with instructor, once with
course assistant (either Tue. or Thur.)
for drill and conversation. Days and times for TA sessions will be announced first week of class. Brief literary and journalistic texts are used as springboard to written and oral exercises.
MAJOR READINGS
INSIEME: AN INTERMEDIATE ITALIAN COURSE
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Some comprehensive assignment every week: either quiz or essay. Oral interview at midterm and at final periods. Weekly oral and written assignments, including lab manual and workbook. Diary entries five times weekly.
One Italian cultural or related
activity weekly.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
ONLY PLACEMENT TEST SCORES FROM CURRENT YEAR ACCEPTABLE. Students placed in ITAL112 are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to enroll in ITAL111 in the Fall Semester. ITAL111 is intended for students who have completed ITAL102 with a
B- or better. Students who have
not done so should consult with the professor before preregistering. Provisions may be made for students going overseas in the fourth semester. Credit will be given for continuing work done overseas upon successful
completion of placement exam upon
return.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed
Drop/Add form to the Registrar's
Office.
