Sophomore Seminar: Nationalism and National Identity in 20th-Century Europe
HIST 264 FA

This course will examine the making and remaking of national identities in 20th-century Western Europe. It will first consider various understandings of nationalism and proceed to investigate the processes of inclusion and exclusion that produce national identities; women's suffrage; anti-Semitism; the fascist state and its legacy; social citizenship in the welfare state; immigration and citizenship; the nationalism of the new right; and the construction of public memory and national myths in fil m and fiction.
