This course will provide students with a general background to Japanese history and culture from earliest to modern times. It emphasizes the fundamentals of Japanese history and culture, giving students a familiarity with Japanese geography, cultural traditions, and historical development that will then allow them to take higher level courses in Japanese history and related topics. Evaluations are based primarily on class-administered examinations and quizzes; high scores require substantial memorization.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
