This course analyzes the relationship between humans and gods and the organization of human society in tragic drama through close readings of Aeschylus' PROMETHEUS BOUND and Sophocles's ANTIGONE. Selections from Aristotle's POETICS and secondary readings on Greek drama will provide the framework for assessing the structure and theme of the two plays.
