This course includes reading and discussion of Greek poetry in the original from the Archaic period.

MAJOR READINGS

Hesiod, THEOGONY, WORKS AND DAYS (selections), The Homeric Hymns to Demeter, Aphrodite, Hermes, and Apollo, selections from Greek Lyric Poetry

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Translation and scansion of Greek readings; presentation in class of interpretation based on reading of selected secondary materials; final paper - 10 pages
