The Evolution of Strategy
GOVT 365 SP

This course will deal with all aspects of strategy in international relations. Military strategy will be the primary focus, from the wars of the Roman Empire to the NATO campaign against Yugoslavia. National grand strategy and related geostrategic issues will also be discussed. The course will investigate the role of developments in military technology as they affect strategic decisions, with a particular focus on the evolution of nuclear strategy. GOVT155 is a prerequisite, as is as a working knowledge of the last century of world history.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Three papers and several short assignments.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
