After a brief review of the character of the Soviet political and economic system, the course moves on to analyze the reasons for the collapse of the USSR. In the second half we examine the politics and economics of the new states that have emerged in the former Soviet Union.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
