Black Politics in Urban America
GOVT 229 FA
The class will examine the 20th-century transformation of African American urban politics. Particular attention will be paid to black mayors, the relationships between city governments and business elites, and community
politics. We will compare
various strategies of political empowerment and various approaches to the relationships between race, class, and power.
