Don Juan: The Myth and French Literature
FREN 266 SP
This course presents an analysis of the Don Juan myth as a model against which to read literary structure. Readings of Tirso de Molina, Moliere, Laclos, E.T.A. Hoffmann, Merimee, Dumas, Gautier, Flaubert, Barbey
d'Aurevilly, Rostand, Montherlant, and
Playboy. Secondary readings include work by Otto Rank, Oscar Mandel, Jean Rousset, and David Winter.
