American Film Industry in the Studio Era
FILM 343 FA

This course explores the history of the Hollywood studio system, from the beginnings of cinema through roughly 1960. We will trace the evolution of the production, distribution, and exhibition of films within the changing structure of the industry, paying particular attention to how economic, industrial, and technological changes impacted the form and content of the films themselves. In addition to exams, each student will undertake a project involving primary research. Some experience in film his tory or analysis is advisable as preparation for this course.

Course fee of $45.00 to help cover the film rentals and projection costs.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
