Innocents Abroad: American Encounters with the Old World
ENGL 345 SP

This class explores how Americans have defined national and personal identity through their journeys to foreign and exotic locales. We will read 19th- and 20th-century texts (including fiction, memoirs, and visual art) that raise questions about perception and the representation of the self and others in fictions of travel.
