Contemporary Theory
ENGL 296 SP

In recent decades, philosophers, linguists, literary critics, intellectuals and scholars have contributed to a heterogeneous body of thought that combines literary, cultural, and social theory. It does so in order to deal with concepts that underpin how we think about signs, representations, identities, and forms of power and resistance. This course will examine some of the major essays written since the 1970s that address one or more of these concepts. The course is intended to provide an overview of major contemporary debates in literary and cultural theory and close-up views of several issues.
