Plays in Pairs
ENGL 232 FA

Plays will be grouped in unorthodox sets to bring out unexpected parallels and relationships. If students wish, they may take both this course and ENGL237 (More Plays in Pairs) for credit.

MAJOR READINGS

The following pairings:
TRIAL BY JURY (Gilbert and Sullivan) and THE BOND (Strindberg)
OEDIPUS THE KING (Sophocles) and GOING TO POT (Feydeau),
THE PELICAN (Strindberg) and LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT (O'Neill),
WOYZECK (Buechner) and OTHERWISE ENGAGED (Gray),
THE ALCHEMIST (Jonson) and GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS (Mamet),
BAAL (Brecht) and FEFU AND HER FRIENDS (Fornes).

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Combination of papers and in-class presentations.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Each absence in excess of 3 will lower a student's course grade by one point.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
