Restoration & Eighteenth-Century British Literature
ENGL 227 FA
This course will introduce students to the world and literature of the Restoration and the eighteenth century. We will read both familiar and obscure works, trace political and social upheavals, and examine developments
in art, architecture, and music
over this most fascinating and active period.
MAJOR READINGS
GULLIVER'S TRAVELS; EVELINA; THE WAY OF THE WORLD; selections from prose and poetry.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
One long paper (approx. 15 pages); one short paper (approx. 10 pages); final exam.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
This course meets the department's pre-1800 requirement.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed
Drop/Add form to the Registrar's
