Ecology Journal Club
E&ES 405 FA
This weekly one-hour discussion group provides students with the opportunity to read and discuss new ideas in ecology as published in recent, relevant journals. Each semester an ecological theme will be chosen and all
articles read during that semester
will revolve around that theme. New ideas will be presented and understood within the context of classic ecological theory.
MAJOR READINGS
One 10-15 page recent journal article will be the selected reading of the week. Journal articles will be published within the last two years from any of the following journals: Ecology, Journal of Ecology, Oecologia,
Trends in Ecology and Evolution,
Ecological Monographs, Ecological Applications, Ambio, and Limnology and Oceanography.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Each week one participant will select a relevant journal article for the rest of the group to read. This same individual will present a 15-20 minute summary of the article to the group during the weekly meeting and will
lead group discussion.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Attendance is required.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed
Drop/Add form to the Registrar's
Office.
