This course introduces students to principles of sedimentology and stratigraphy. Students will learn to identify and classify sediment and sedimentary rocks, sedimentary structures, and sediment textures. The course will cover sediment processes, facies analysis, and depositional environments. Students will be introduced to seismic stratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy, and basin analysis. Laboratory exercises will emphasize topics introduced in lecture. A hands-on approach will be encouraged in this course. Samples, thin sections, and field trips will be used to illustrate the fundamentals of sedimentology and stratigraphy.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
