Bharata Natyam (South Indian Classical Dance)

Bharata Natyam, the classical dance tradition of South India, combines principles of music and dance into a theatrical idiom capable of story-telling as well as abstract beauty. The rudiments of this technique will be taught through classroom practice in rhythmic and interpretive exercises.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

May be repeated for credit. Keeping a journal will be an integral part of the class as will student/teacher conferences and preparation for the end of semester Intro-to-Dance recital.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
