This course is an introduction to the movement language of the South Indian Classical Dance tradition, Bharatanatyam. Through daily embodiment of the movement language of Bharatanatyam, students will gain an
understanding of the aesthetic, political,
social and cultural dimensions of this form. The course will focus largely on studio participation, combined with readings, discussions and video-viewings to deepen our understanding of this form. There is no
pre-requisite and no prior dance experience
is expected for this course.
Evaluation will be based on attendance and class participation, class journal/Short essays and end of semester performance in World Music Hall.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
