Topics in Cell Biology

This is a seminar course which focuses in depth on a specific topic of emerging research interest in an important area of cell biology. Areas from which topics might be drawn include signaling and the cell division cycle, molecular mechanisms of motility, programmed cell death, transformation from normal to cancerous growth, manipulation of stem cells, cytomembrane dynamics and advances in cellular technologies. In addition to faculty lectures, students will be expected to maintain a schedule of reading in the primary scientific literature, give oral presentations in class, and participate actively in class discussions. Graduate students will be expected to be particularly rigorous in their analytical approach to experimental design.

MAJOR READINGS

Scientific papers from contemporary journals.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Oral presentations and class discussion.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
