Animal Orientation and Migration

The orientation, navigation and migratory behaviors of animals from bacteria to vertebrates are examined from both mechanistic (how) and evolutionary (why) viewpoints. Readings and lecture/discussions will necessarily include material from each of the following disciplines: animal behavior, evolutionary biology, ecology and neurophysiology.

MAJOR READINGS

Book chapters, review articles and original research reports on reserve in the Science Library. Readings will average about 30-50 pages per week.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

One research paper, 1 or 2 student presentations and 1 final exam.
