Genes in Development
BIOL 315 FA
Drosophila developmental genetics is the primary subject material for the course. Emphasis is placed on the role of genetics (gene activity and regulation) in development as well as the tools of genetics and molecular
biology that facilitate the
analysis of development. Topics include egg polarity, determination, segmentation, pattern formation and genome mapping.
MAJOR READINGS
Review articles and research papers from current scientific literature will be assigned and suggested.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Class participation in discussion, short written reviews of research papers, major library paper on a relevant topic of the student's choosing. Students enrolled in BIOL515 will also do one class participation.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed
Drop/Add form to the Registrar's
Office.
