Photography II
ARST 452 FA

This course explores black-and-white photography as an art form. Classes will investigate available and artificial light. Classes will involve some technical topics as well as critiques.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Weekly submission of contact sheets, work prints, photographic prints and reviews of three portfolios of six prints each during the semester.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Students must supply their own camera equipment and tripod. Lab fee of $100.00 includes chemicals, handouts, studio operation costs. SELECTION FOR PHOTO II: Selection for photo II will be by portfolio review DURING THE DROP AND ADD PERIOD. The location and times for this review will be posted with other course materials in the hallway of the photo lab in the basement of Zilkha Gallery. MAKE-UP OF PORTFOLIO FOR ADMISSION: Your portfolio should include a minimum of ten exhibition-quality prints and twelve rolls of negatives with corresponding contact proof sheets. These prints and negatives must have been processed by you. This is a minimum; you are welcome to submit additional material. If you have taken a basic photo course at Wesleyan, negatives and contact sheets are not necessary; you need only submit the ten prints plus any contacts, negatives and prints produced since completing the course here. Regular lab and/or studio sessions will be adjusted as much as possible to fit student schedules. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
