African Cinema and Society
ANTH 334 SP
This course explores the links between cinema, politics, and culture in the context of everyday social relations in West African societies. Concentrating on films from Senegal, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, and Mali, and
taking a broadly historical and
interpretive approach to African culture, the course discusses comparative and African aesthetics in relation to film aesthetics, the economics and politics of film production and distribution, and problems of meaning
and interpretation in cinema.
