Junior Colloquium: Faulkner, Ford, and Ives
AMST 208 FA

William Faulkner's fiction, John Ford's films, and Charles Ives's music are studied in the context of 19th and 20th century American culture.

MAJOR READINGS

Faulkner, SOUND AND THE FURY, AS I LAY DYING, LIGHT IN AUGUST, short stories.
Ford: "Fort Apache", "The Searchers," "My Darling Clementine," "The Horse Soldiers," "Two Rode Together." Ives: The Concord Sonata, Songs, Some Southpaw Pitching and others.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Journal, final project.

Attendance required. Group projects. Exercises. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
