Modern Spanish American Poetry

This course presents the poetics of modern Spanish American verse, seen both historically, from the late 19th century to the present and intertextually through frequent confrontations of texts by Dario, G. Mistral, Vallejo, Borges, Neruda, Paz, and others.

MAJOR READINGS

Selections from the poetry of: Ruben Darfo Gabriela Mistral Cesar Vallejo Jorge Luis Borges Pablo Neruda Octavio Paz and other more recent poets.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Two quizzes and a final Two short papers and a term paper.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

SPAN226 or equivalent. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
