Intermediate Spanish I

Required Sequence: SPAN111 & SPAN112

Intermediate language course. Emphasis on the continuation of development of receptive and productive language skills (reading, listening, writing, and speaking), with a main cultural component. The sequence SPAN111 and SPAN112 provides a complete review of first-year grammar and focuses on improving active and passive vocabulary, comprehension of both literary and nonliterary Spanish. Development of writing and speaking. Three classroom periods (MWF) with instructor, one with TA in smaller groups. This is an ampersand course; although a grade will be assigned at the end of the semester, credit will only be granted upon completion of SPAN112.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Frequent written and oral assignments and tests. Attendance to class and work in the language laboratory required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

This course is intended for students who have completed SPAN 102 with a grade of B- or better or have placed into SPAN 111 through the placement test this fall or have an AP credit of 3. Juniors and Seniors will be accepted as space becomes available.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
