How do cities develop? Are there universal laws that govern city growth, or do cities develop differently within distinctive economic and political frameworks? This course addresses those questions by tracing the history of cities, comparing major theoretical approaches and addressing a number of important current issues in urban areas in the United States, including redevelopment, housing, homelessness, and the fiscal crisis of the cities.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
