Lesbian/Bisexual/Gay People in Society
SOC 224 FA

This course is intended as as introduction to contemporary lesbian, bisexual and gay social theory. We will begin by reading personal narratives that focus on the experience, identity, culture and community. We will examine basic contemporary theories on gender and sexuality, focusing on lesbian and gay theory, the emerging queer theory and discussions of bisexuality and its theoretical implications.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

A journal with weekly entries, attendance and class participation, weekly discussion sections, an independent research project and oral class presentation.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

The class is permission of instructor, open to students of all sexual orientations; preference will be given to juniors and seniors. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's office.
