This course is a reading of Dostoevsky's major works in the context of Russian intellectual history and Russian and West European literature of the mid-19th century.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Four to five one-page papers which prepare discussion questions; one longer paper; a mid-term and final exam.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Literature in translation. Critical articles available on reserve will be required reading. Even if you are not pre-enrolled in this class, come to the first class and the instructor will sign your add slip. There
is no need to talk to the
instructor in advance; all students will be admitted.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed
Drop/Add form to the Registrar's
Office.
