Academic Year 2000/2001
A Matter of Life and Death: Fiction in the Soviet Era
RUSS 206 SP
Linked Course: RUSS212
The collision between the artist and the state powers was always predominant feature of Russian and Soviet literatures. The Bolshevik Revolution deepened the conflict forcing a great number of writers to leave the
country. Many of those who stayed but
objected to follow strong ideological pressure risked their lives in insisting on the everlasting moral and aesthetic absolutes. In spite of 70 years of dictatorial regime, the word of true artists remained free.
