This course will include a close reading of select Jewish writings composed between the formation of the Hebrew Bible (ca. 400 B.C.E.) and the parallel rise of rabbinic Judaism and early Christianity (ca. 100 C.E.). Readings will include the Old Testament apocrypha, the Dead Sea Scrolls from Qumran, Philo and Josephus.
