This course will introduce and develop computer-based quantitative methods that are useful in behavioral and life sciences. It is intended for students who have taken statistics and who wish to reinforce their understanding and learn more about analysis and presentation. Students who have not had statistics but who are comfortable with quantitative thinking can get permission of the instructor. The meetings will be introductory lectures on core ideas and methods, group activity on projects, and student presentations. Topics include estimates of central tendency, variability, analysis of variance, hypothesis testing, correlation, cross-correlation, spectral analysis, and cluster analysis. Methods include S-Plus, a programmable and graphically-oriented language for statistical analysis, Excel, and Visual Basic.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
