Academic Year 2000/2001
The Self
PHIL 220 SP
Socrates said, "know thyself". But what is self-knowledge? What, indeed, is the self? How is knowledge of one's self related to knowledge of other people? Does self-knowledge contribute to one's self-development
(indeed, of what does self-development
consist)? Is there such a thing as one's "genuine" self? If there is, is this something to be discovered or created? These and cognate questions will be addressed in this course.
