West African Music and Culture--Beginners
MUSC 445 FA
The course will offer a variety of West African traditional drum music. The basic drum techniques and different rhythmic patterns of Ghanaian and other neighboring African states will be taught. Students will learn to
play drums employed in
recreational, religious, ceremonial and warrior music styles.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Compositions and/or exercises are presented orally or in notation. Through practice, students master the assignments from one lesson to the next.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Preference to junior and senior music majors and those enrolled in Afro-American studies and related music courses. Interested students should attend first class meeting with Drop/Add slip. There will be no
preregistration for this class.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed
Drop/Add form to the Registrar's
Office.
