Academic Year 2000/2001

Performing Emily
MUSC 117 SP

We use the poems of Emily Dickinson as a point of reference. We prepare our imaginations for engaging music by investigating the common ground of performing art and poetry. The content of the course consists entirely of art, in the broadest sense, that we ourselves invent and perform. We listen to no recordings. We read and perform Emily's words. We are a community of investigators. No previous formal training in music or art is required. Those with such training will find it irrelevant to the work.

MAJOR READINGS

Many handouts. Emily Dickinson, COLLECTED POEMS.
