Advanced Molecular Biology
MB&B 309 FA

This course will attempt to give some insight into the ways that eukaryotic cells regulate gene expression. The emphasis for the first half of the course will be on transcriptional control and the role of transcription factors. The second half will exphasize mechanisms involved in RNA modification and translation. Although the focus will be on original research papers and on the experimental approaches that are used, an attempt to formulate some generalization will be made.

MAJOR READINGS

Basic text to be announced. Review articles and current journal articles.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Two papers and two exams with several seminar presentations.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
