This is a course on the differential and integral calculus of functions of several real variables. Among the areas covered are cross product; vector and scalar valued functions of several variables; directional and partial derivatives; gradient; chain rule; implicit differentiation; maxima, minima and saddle points; Lagrange's multipliers; line integrals; potential functions; multiple integrals; Green's Theorem, surface integrals; Stokes' Theorem; divergence theorem. This course will have special emphasis on developing geometric intuition.

MAJOR READINGS

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Two or three one-hour exams; regular homework; quizzes, labs and final examination.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

The course has no prerequisite. However, knowledge of calculus equivalent to MATH121 and MATH122 or equivalent to achievement of 4 or 5 on an AP calculus exam is expected.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
