This course is an introduction to modern Japanese, both spoken and written. Class meets daily, five hours a week. Regular work in the language laboratory and Kanji workshop is required.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Conversation, grammar, writing and reading, drills, quizzes and examinations, essays in Japanese. Because language acquisition is easier the younger you are and because it takes a relatively long time to reach a useful level of proficiency in Japanese, students interested in the language should begin as soon as possible.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Regular attendance in class, in the language laboratory, and at the Kanji workshop is required.
