The seminar will explore the hsitory of Jewish people in America, stretching back to the time of Christopher Columbus but with an emphasis on the last 125 years. Many topics will be considered including the Jews' motivations for migrating to America, relations between the German and Russian Jews, the labor movement, business enterprise, Yiddish culture, socialism, Zionism, anti-Semitism, and their self-identity.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
