Homer: The ILIAD

Class discussion will focus on major concerns of current Homeric scholarship, among them theories of oral composition, Homeric religion and the Homeric hero, and The ILIAD as an epic of war.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Continuous readings in Greek and English of the ILIAD; with tests in language and a final paper.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
